Partry House is located 5km north of Ballinrobe on the N84, 19km from Westport/
Castlebar and an hour's drive from Galway.
Situated on the southern shores of Lough Carra
it offers immediate access to both Carra and Lough Mask. Places
of local interest include Ballintubber Abbey, Cong, Ashford
Castle, Tourmakeady, Croagh Patrick, and Turlough Museum.
Horse riding, fishing, golf, hill-walking, falconry
and horse racing provide entertainment and leisure in the
locale.
History
Partry House is designated of historic importance
to its area, on account of having been the family seat of
the noted Lynch family for over three hundred turbulent years.
There is evidence of the original castle walls in the main
house and in one of the present farmyard buildings.
Nearby Ballinrobe has a very old tradition of
racing in various forms with meetings recorded in 1774 and
steeplechases included in the 1834 meeting.
